Aloe Vera History

The use of aloe vera as high potential medicinal plant has survived mainly in Oriental and American peoples . It was precisely Christopher Columbus , who played a major role in the spread of the plant.
The Aloe Vera is canary. Apparently, since the plant Islands was transferred to the New World by the conquistadors and Franciscan , who made the first plantations in the island of Spanish . From it comes the scientific name of the species most exploited , the ' aloe barbadensis ' .
The use of the ' hard ' is documented among the foremost chroniclers of antiquity. We do know that from the sixteenth century BC, Egyptian writings and later the Bible , make mention of this plant. It is even said that the philosopher Aristotle persuaded Alexander the Great to conquer the island of Sócrotora , in order to obtain sufficient amount of aloe for healing the wounds of his soldiers. The oldest known description is in the Egyptian Ebers Papyrus of 1500 BC , which details over 12 remedies with aloe vera. I also have texts in which prominent physicians of the time, as Dioscorides and Pliny praised its properties.
The Arabs , large plant lovers , they took in their campaigns and , at the end of the reconquista, left large plantations in the Peninsula. It was grown in northern Europe , where the plant did not survive the winter cold. The difficulty in the conservation of plant made them forget their virtues and was forgotten replaced by other remedies. Was continued , however, the tree powder commercialized .
At present , although the aloe continues without sufficient backing from the international community care, much research aimed at discovering the benefits of its use in terminal conditions such as cancer or AIDS.
So the Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA ) of the United States has authorized the use of products made with isolated active principles of the plant to HIV treatment , and research of Irving Carrington Laboratories (USA ) show improvement from AIDS patients whose diet was reinforced with aloe vera juice . Also scientists at the University of Texas have shown that aloe polysaccharides are potent anticancer agents.
