In 2001 Canary Islands producers of aloe vera, given the possibility of cultivating it in the Islands and exporting it to the European markets, joined up in order to confer cohesion to the sector and create a differentiated product.
Constant study and investigation are fundamental in order to guarantee the quality of the product. It’s with this intent that Laboratorios Pejoseca, S.L. dedicate 15% of its budget to study and development. Therefore, besides having their own department dedicated to this, they asked the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Fundación Universitaria de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to carry out scientific analysis on their products.
The industry of aloe vera presents many prospects in the Canary Islands. During the last ten years, thanks to the spreading of the use of ecological and natural products with certified qualities, the sector expanded helping us to export our products to central Europe.
Today 150 hectares of cultivable land of the Islands are devoted to the growing of aloe vera and have an industrial capacity of six million kilos a year. More than three hundred workers directly or indirectly live on this plant.
